SAMUEL J. DEAL


 
Samuel J. Deal, President of iDEAL Consultants, was born in Salisbury, Maryland, where he attended James M. Bennett Sr. High School. Sam graduated, with high honors, from Morgan State University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.

Sam is also a graduate of the Maryland Banking School, and holds a Law Degree (J.D.) from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
 
Deal was employed by Equitable Bank, N.A./Maryland National Bank (now a part of Bank of America), serving as Branch Manager and Loan Officer, for over 18 years.  He then joined The Harbor Bank of Maryland (www.theHarborBank.com), serving progressively over 14 years as Vice President of Branch Administration, Senior Vice President - Operations, and SVP - IT & External Affairs as a member of the bank's Senior Management Team. 
 

Working extensively in the community, Sam managed Harbor Bankshares' not-for-profit community development corporation (CDC). Additionally, in helping to manage Harbor's New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) Program, he was instrumental in the writing of Harbor's successful NMTC applications, which were awarded substantial allocations of tax credits. Deal assisted in obtaining funding commitments for the credits, underwriting and managing a pipeline of qualified investments, and maintaining NMTC, IRS, and investment compliance standards. Having left the bank in 2005 to start his own company, Sam continues to assist Harbor with its NMTC program in his capacity as a Senior Consultant.

Sam also served as Senior Advisor to Hampton Roads Ventures (www.HamptonRoadsVentures.com), a successful nationwide CDE which has received numerous NMTC allocations. In the role as Senior Advisor, Deal assisted in securing investors for the CDE's credits, underwriting potential investments, and ensuring ongoing program compliance.

Currently, Deal is the Director of the Graves Honors Program at Morgan State University's Graves School of Business & Management, where he teaches Managerial Finance and Commercial Bank Management courses. He is also a module facilitator with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business (GS10KSB) Program hosted by Johns Hopkins University.

Sam is the President of his own consulting firm - iDEAL Consultants - specializing in community development financing and financial consultation. He serves as a Senior Vice President of Renaissance Equity Partners, LLC (www.RenEquity.com) - an investment firm, and Senior Vice President of Renaissance New Markets Fund, LLC (RNMF), a Community Development Entity (CDE) certified by the U.S. Treasury Department . Deal was also an Associate Member of the National Bankers Association (NBA).
 
Sam is the Pastor of New Mt. Carmel Ministries Church of God in Christ in Baltimore, MD.  In addition, he is the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent for the Greater Maryland First Jurisdiction COGIC.  Along with his wife Pam, Sam has a son and a daughter.
